During July and August, we’ll be featuring a selection of stunning hand-crafted boxes and bowls by Todd Reed. When Todd isn’t making jewelry, he loves to make objets d’art. These dramatic pieces are ordinarily only available in Todd’s showroom in Boulder, and we are thrilled to have them here!

Alex Sepkus Moonstone Ring

June Birthstones
June has two gorgeous birthstones, pearl and moonstone. One of our favorite trends right now is Mikimoto pearls being worn casually, even with jeans and t-shirts! We also have several new pieces of moonstone jewelry, including earrings by Jennifer Dawes Design, a gray moonstone necklace from Arman Sarkisyan, and a knock-your-socks-off ring and pendant by Fox’s favorite Alex Sepkus.

Zuzko earrings

New Local Designer
We are frequently asked about local artists, and we are excited to announce that we’re now carrying a fantastic silver jewelry collection by Zuzana Korbelarova of Vashon Island. She began making jewelry after returning several gifts from her husband. He told her to make her own and bought her all the supplies she needed, and the rest is history! Her collection encompasses everything from everyday wear to fun statement jewelry. See it here

March's Birthstone: Aquamarine

March babies have an especially lovely birthstone - calming, soothing aquamarine. Aquamarine's name comes from the Latin for "water of the sea." Just like seawater, the color can range from pale blue, to greenish blue, to a deeper blue. The deeper the blue, the more valuable the aquamarine will be. Aquamarines are a member of the beryl family, which includes emeralds and morganites. They are naturally very clean gemstones, and it is rare to see inclusions. Aquamarines are found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Africa, Colombia, and the United States.

Alex Sepkus aquamarine necklace and ring

There are many myths and legends about aquamarines. Roman legend has it that that the stone absorbs young love: “When blessed and worn, it joins in love, and does great things.” Aquamarine was also considered the most appropriate gift for a groom to give his bride for their marriage. Today, many brides love to wear aquamarine for their "something blue." The Greeks and the Romans knew the aquamarine as the sailor’s gem, ensuring safe passage across the seas. In Medieval times, the stone was thought to reawaken the love of married couples, and today is the traditional anniversary gift for a 19th wedding anniversary.

Alex Sepkus aquamarine ring

At Fox's, we have two lovely aquamarine pieces right now, both one of a kinds from Todd Reed:

This stunning cuff features a 12.62 carat aquamarine set in a palladium and oxidized sterling silver bracelet with 0.52 carats of flush set diamonds.

This incredible waterfall necklace features 26 carats of aquamarine, 2.72 carats of diamonds, and Todd's signature finish work on 18k yellow gold.

Whether you have a March birthday, a wedding, and anniversary, or an upcoming sea voyage, come in to Fox's and let us help you pick out the perfect aquamarine piece!

February's Birthstone: Amethyst

February's birthstone is the regal purple amethyst. Amethysts are a member of the quartz family, The name comes from the ancient Greek a- ("not") and μέθυστος méthystos ("intoxicated"), a reference to the belief that the stone prevented drunkenness. Medieval European soldiers wore amulets made out of amethyst into battle, believing that it would keep them cool-headed, and Tibetans consider amethyst sacred to the Buddha and make prayer beads from it.

Amethyst "Cityscape" ring by Alex Sepkus

In the Old World, amethyst was considered one of the most precious gems until large deposits of it were found in Brazil. Amethyst can also be found in Siberia, Sri Lanka, Austria, Canada, and even the United States, where it is the official state gemstone of South Carolina.

At Fox's, we think the perfect February birthday gift is this gorgeous amethyst necklace by Ray Griffiths:

If you don't like purple but still want to be protected from intoxication, you can still wear amethysts. These gemstones can be heat treated to become citrine and prasiolite, which are yellow and green in color, respectively. You may also find very pale amethysts, which are called Rose de France. Whatever shade you prefer, we can find it for you at Fox's!

January's Birthstone: Gorgeous Garnet

Garnet, January’s birthstone, is one of the most diverse gemstones. It comes in an array of colors, although it’s most commonly known for its classic shade of red. Garnet varieties and species actually come in a rainbow of colors, including orange, yellow, and green. While rare, these gemstones can also come in blue and violet, and even color change! Here at Fox's we have hand picked some of the most rare and vivid species of garnet. Below are some amazing one of kind pieces featuring these special gemstones.

A Love Letter to Alex Sepkus

Dear Alex,

We can hardly believe it's been 26 years since we first laid eyes on you. It was love at first sight! We received a catalog of all the jewelry that would be at the first JCK jewelry trade show to be held in Las Vegas, and as soon as we saw your picture we knew we had to meet you.

We woke up early, full of excitement, and were the first in line to get to see you in person. And you were even more wonderful in person! Your gleaming 18k gold, lovingly hand finished under a microscope! Your whimsical hidden motifs! Your incredible one of a kind gemstones!

We took you home with us and have never looked back. With every passing year, you become more timeless, more unique, and more special. We love to be with you doing fun casual things just as much as we love our fancy nights out.

Just when I think I know everything there is to know about you, you surprise me with something new. On December 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, from 10am to 6pm, we are so excited to have our annual trunk show with you, where you can show off all your newest finery to all our clients.

Here's to another 26 years!

Fox's Seattle

Vegas Day 1

Every year, a team from Fox's goes to Las Vegas in June (average high temperature: 100 degrees) to attend the Couture jewelry show. The best jewelry designers in the world all gather at the luxurious Wynn Hotel to show their newest collections. It's just like being a kid in a candy store, except all of the candy is jewelry!

If you've never been to the Wynn, it is a beautiful hotel and such a feast for the eyes before you even see any jewelry. They are known for their elaborate floral arrangements, and this year there was a hot air balloon made entirely of flowers in the lobby!

The show begins at 10am, and our first appointment is always with Alex Sepkus. We have been carrying Sepkus for 25 years, and his jewelry is so timeless and unique. There are always many one of a kind pieces, and the early bird gets the worm!

Zoey and Chai pore over stacks and stacks of rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets until they find the pieces that are just right for us. Each of these rings contains a one of a kind gemstone.

Zoey and Chai admire Alex Sepkus's famously detailed workmanship. Each piece is finished by hand under a microscope. If you look closely, you may see whimsical creatures, bicycle chains, or numbers hiding there!

The next stop is Todd Reed. We discovered Todd Reed at the Couture show 5 years ago and have been in love with him (and his jewelry) ever since. He has such a wonderful energy and is a pioneer in the use of raw diamonds in fine jewelry. Here is Zoey with Todd on the left and our Todd Reed rep, Jeff Hayzlett, on the right. If you look closely, Zoey is wearing her brand new necklace that she designed with Todd, featuring her children's birthstones. It was finished just in time to be hand carried by Jeff to the show!

It is always a treat to see the new designs that Todd has come up with. This year we saw some lovely raw diamond cabochons.

Getting to try on all of the jewelry is the most fun part of going to Couture. Zoey couldn't resist this stunning new Todd Reed bracelet design.

Here is a little pile of our favorites. Some of these beauties will be showing up at Fox's soon!

Our last official stop of the day is at Mikimoto. The founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, discovered how to grow cultured pearls in 1893. Since then, Mikimoto has been revered for having the finest pearls in the world. Kokichi Mikimoto once said, "My dream is to adorn the necks of all women around the world with pearls." Today, a strand of pearls is synonymous with classic elegance that never goes out of style.

In the Mikimoto suite, Zoey, Chai, and Joy admire cases of stunning South Sea pearls. This suite of golden baroque pearls and diamonds was a real showstopper!

Zoey and Chai inspect a pearl bracelet up close. Mikimoto is known for perfection, and each pearl is matched in color, size, shape, and quality. For more rare pearls, it can take 15 years to collect enough to make a perfectly matched necklace!

Perusing a tray of black pearls. See how many color variations are available, from silver to peacock!

With those three appointments, the day is officially over but can we tear ourselves away yet? No! One of the most fun parts of Couture is browsing. This is how we discover new designers, or maybe a special one-off piece for the store. Here Chai admires a piece that has caught his eye.

After a long day on our feet, Vegas nightlife has no allure and a bed has never looked so good. Stay tuned for the recap of day two!
